Celebrating Our Roots: Arkansas Century Farm Program
It was an honor and a proud moment for our family when we were recently recognized by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders as part of the Arkansas Century Farm Program. This program, established by the Arkansas Department of Agriculture in 2012, celebrates farms that have been in the same family for at least 100 years, our being established in 1891.
The induction ceremony took place at the State Capitol, where Governor Sanders, alongside Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture Wes Ward, honored 41 farms across the state. Our farm, in Polk County, was among those celebrated for its century-long legacy. Governor Sanders emphasized how farming is not just an economic pillar for Arkansas but a vital part of our cultural and historical fabric. "Family farmers are the backbone of our state and that's especially true for our Century Farm families," she stated, acknowledging the dedication and persistence of farm families like ours.
Receiving the personalized certificate and the metal sign was more than just an accolade; it was a recognition of our ancestors' hard work and the legacy we continue to uphold. This acknowledgment not only honors those who came before us but also motivates us to keep the farm thriving for future generations. The Arkansas Century Farm Program is voluntary, with no cost to participating families, which made this recognition even more special, as it genuinely felt like an appreciation of our heritage rather than just another program.
As we look back on this remarkable day, we're reminded of the deep roots we have in this soil and the countless stories that have shaped us. Being recognized by the Governor of Arkansas in the Century Farm Program is not just an end but a milestone in our ongoing journey. We are grateful for this recognition and excited about what the future holds for our family farm.
Thank you for joining us in celebrating this significant moment. Here's to another century of farming, family, and tradition.
